Our Group read and studied the book Encouraging the Heart by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner. Reading this book gave us an opportunity to dig deeper into the author's philosophies. We interacted a bit with their ideas as an overview in class by filling in a rating scale to note our strong areas and areas to develop as leaders. The five areas the authors feel are integral to strong leadership are:
1. Model the Way
2. Inspire a Shared Vision
3. Challenge the Process
4. Enable Others to Act
5. Encourage the Heart
By reading this book and reflecting on our own potential as leaders, we have gained a deeper understanding of how this fifth practice is critical for leaders--especially teacher librarians! Please join us as we examine it more closely!
